Rachel Smith creates sculptural pieces of indecipherable literature by surgically removing the spaces between words and letters. Traditional ink and brush templates guide her knife between characters giving infinite depth to the spaces. Smith tailors her use of different papers from around the world to the circumstances for each installation. The pieces displayed are cut from Yupo paper, chosen for the lightness and durability.
